On August 7 of the year 1908 the PARTIDO INDEPENDIENTES DE COLOR was formed in Havana, Cuba. This was the first political party in the Western Hemisphere created and led by descendents of Africans, such as EVARISTO ESTENOZ, PEDRO IVONET, EUGENE LACOSTE, and others. It was also the first political organization in Cuba with a program based on the principles of PEACE EQUALITY AND SOCIAL PROGRESS. It also stood for erasing racism in that

Persistent demands of the peoples of the Caribbean islands Saint Martin and Saint Eustatius forced the Dutch slaveholders government to recognize abolition of slavery in 1848 in those islands. Yet, until 1863 the Dutch finally abolished slavery in Curazao, Aruba, Bonaire and Surinam. Naturally, the ruling elite sought all means to ensure the payment of indemnization to the slaveholders class on the one hand and on the other hand all conditions were created to impose the continuation of dutch political, economic and cultural domination after slavery was abolished.
